Native Ninebark is another excellent shrub choice for year round interest. Arching branches with lobed leaves give Native Ninebark a mounded look. Five-petaled flowers appear in dense, spirea-like clusters in spring, giving way to a multitude of reddish berry clusters. Its leaves turn golden in autumn. Named for its unusual bark which peels in strips to reveal several layers of reddish to light brown inner bark, ninebark is a popular ‘winter interest’ shrub, making an excellent hedge plant and providing good erosion control.
