MYKE Tree and Shrub
MYKE is an all-natural fungi inoculation for trees and shrubs. The technical term for these fungi is called mycorrhizae. These fungi attach to the root hairs and its hyphae or tendrils extend out into the soil at the microscopic level. Their job is to harvest water and minerals and bring it back to the tree to consume. In essence, mycorrhizae can quadruple the root system of trees and shrubs making for superior growth! Mycorrhizae are integral to all trees and shrubs the world over. Unfortunately, the fungi that supports sagebrush isn’t the same for example, as maple trees, that’s why we recommend MYKE. You are guaranteed inoculation. We sell MYKE in the 1.4 QT (6 cups) and the 3.6 QT sizes (16 cups). In most cases, the recommendation is to use between 2 and 4 cups per tree and shrub. These truly xeric plants can live with our 12 inches of natural annual precipitation and only need a winter watering during a multi-year drought, but they will thrive with a monthly watering. Overwatering will kill some of these. These plants are adapted to intermittent deep
watering with soil drying to a depth of a few inches between waterings. Watering frequency may be every couple of weeks during the active growing season and maybe only one winter watering for optimal care. These plants need regular watering somewhat like a bluegrass lawn so that
they never dry to depth in the root system during the active growing season, and need occasional winter watering to prevent root dessication and resultant plant
death. About sizes of our plants:
Sizes indicated with a # are roughly the equivalent in gallonage; so a #2 is about a 2 gallon pot size; b&b stands for balled and burlapped.
